Global Day of Action for Venezuela: Against War and for Peace

By Basma Mustafa Al-Jawkhi

The Venezuelan Embassy in the Arab Republic of Egypt organized a day of action to support Venezuela in the face of the United States’ criminal and bullying policies against its leader and its brotherly people.

The event was attended by supporters and friends of Venezuela, and all lovers of peace, including leaders of political parties, editors-in-chief, journalists, representatives of solidarity groups, media outlets friendly to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and former presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi. The gathering was held at the Venezuelan Embassy and was attended by His Excellency Wilmar Omar, the Venezuelan Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

This is the speech of Ambassador General Wilmar Omar:

Dear brothers and sisters,

Allow me to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support of the noble cause of the Venezuelan people. Our gratitude to you will remain boundless in the face of your unwavering commitment to my beloved country. As is clear to everyone, Venezuela has strongly condemned the recent and dangerous escalation in the harassment policy pursued by the United States government against our country. The Venezuelan government has stated that these attacks, which have intensified in recent years through illegal sanctions, smear campaigns, the non-recognition of legitimate Venezuelan institutions, and the politicization of the judiciary, have now reached an unprecedented level of threat with the US military buildup in the Caribbean.

Venezuela has expressed its deep concern regarding the continued escalation of tensions in the Caribbean region, resulting from the unprecedented increase in the US naval and air force deployment. This buildup includes assets with nuclear capabilities, more than 15,000 troops, and the presence of the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, and its strike group, as part of what is known as “Operation Southern Spear.” This deployment represents the largest combined force deployed in the region since the 1989 invasion of Panama.

For Venezuela, these hostile actions, coupled with the execution of “military maneuvers” just a few kilometers from our coast—involving the US Marines, including reconnaissance units designed to conduct offensive operations in foreign countries—constitute a serious and grave escalation of the already alarming US military buildup in Latin America and the Caribbean, a region that already hosts more than 76 US military bases.

Venezuela also strongly rejects the statement made by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on November 13, 2025, in which he asserted that his government unilaterally defines international law according to its own interests. We reiterate that the threat of the use of force is expressly prohibited under Article 2, paragraph 4, of the Charter of the United Nations. The combination of this massive military deployment, explicit threats, and the fabrication of legal pretexts through disinformation creates an environment of coercion that constitutes a clear violation of the Charter and a blatant threat to regional and international peace and security. From Venezuela, the land of Bolívar, marked by struggles for independence and the dream of a free humanity, we expressed our sincerest hopes that the American people, in their profound diversity, creativity, and social energy, may rediscover the original values upon which the American nation was founded and move forward toward a horizon of peace, shared prosperity, respect for life, and a positive contribution to global equilibrium.

Let us recall that, during his intervention in the general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Iván Gil, reiterated his condemnation of the numerous attacks perpetrated against Venezuela by the United States of America, emphasizing that “these attacks against Venezuela in recent years are countless: acts of destabilization and conspiracies, including an assassination attempt using drones; economic warfare, the most severe manifestation of which is the 1,042 sanctions criminally imposed on our oil industry and the nation’s productive sectors, along with several attempts at infiltration by mercenaries.”

In this context, on October 15, 2025, Venezuela rejected the hostile and bizarre statements made by the President of the United States, in which he publicly authorized actions targeting peace and stability in Venezuela. This unprecedented statement constitutes a grave violation of international law and the UN Charter, requiring the international community to condemn such unjustified and unacceptable pronouncements. We also follow with grave concern the involvement of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), along with the announced military deployments in the Caribbean, which constitute a policy of aggression, intimidation, and harassment against Venezuela. It is clear that these maneuvers aim to legitimize a “regime change” operation to seize Venezuelan oil resources.

As the threats escalate, the Venezuelan people, in complete unity among their popular, military, and police forces, are preparing to confront and overcome any potential scenario. Venezuela possesses an inherent dignity, inherited from our liberators who granted us our sacred independence, a dignity that has endured for 200 years. Currently, there is an attempt to impose force, coercion, threats, and blackmail upon us through the use of military force and intimidation. Therefore, we have been working to strengthen the people, the state, its institutions, and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB). For this reason, Commander-in-Chief Nicolás Maduro Moros called for recruitment into the militias, and more than 8 million people have registered with the Bolivarian Militia. This force is tasked with being a complementary force, capable of carrying out specific missions, and it possesses highly equipped and trained special operations units to defend the national territory. In the face of imperialist threats, a united Venezuela will always prevail!

In this context of escalating tensions and international challenges, Venezuela is at the forefront of global discourse.

Because of its unwavering defense of sovereignty, self-determination, and peace among peoples.

Comrades, the international anti-fascist movement and global solidarity in general are important mechanisms for exchanging and disseminating accurate information about various events, fostering dialogue among forces in solidarity, and strengthening international coordination in defense of truth, peace, dignity, and cooperation among peoples.

Currently, discussions are focused on confronting the “certain, real, and systematic threat” against Venezuela, which is seen as the latest manifestation of the Monroe Doctrine. Proclaimed in 1823 under the slogan “America for the Americans,” this doctrine has historically served as the framework for US hegemony and intervention in the region, causing “grave damage to the political security, economic development, and social stability” of all the peoples of Latin America.

It is alarming that the new “National Security Strategy” published by the United States on December 5th prioritizes the restoration of “US hegemony in Latin America,” aiming to bolster US influence in the region by implementing the “Trumpian justification” for the Monroe Doctrine, which ushered in an era of regional intervention and the imposition of authoritarian regimes on the continent. Today, aggression is directed at Venezuela, a peaceful and united nation. Since it cannot be accused of possessing weapons of mass destruction or nuclear weapons, they are fabricating vulgar and malicious lies to justify a massive, horrific, bizarre, and immoral military threat.

As we have learned, voices in the US Congress rose last week to condemn the extrajudicial killings resulting from irrational US actions in the Caribbean and Pacific. As evidence of the gravity of the situation, and after viewing the presented videos, Jim Himes, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, described it as “one of the most disturbing things I have seen during my public service.”

As President Nicolás Maduro stated, in the face of the military threat in the Caribbean and the extrajudicial killings reported by the United Nations, we are obligated to maintain the peace of the region, unite our efforts as nations, and speak with one voice demanding an immediate end to the attacks and military threats against our people. In line with this position, on November 24, 2025, Venezuela expressed its categorical, unwavering, and absolute rejection of the new measure by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which aims to justify an illegal and illegitimate intervention against Venezuela within the classic US formula for regime change—a maneuver doomed to failure, as have previous and repeated acts of aggression. Venezuela urged the US government to correct this misguided policy of aggression and threats, which is rejected by the US people themselves, hinders the development of the Caribbean peoples, and contributes in no way to a genuine and effective fight against illicit drug trafficking.

In this context, Venezuela strongly condemned the threat made by US President Donald Trump on social media on November 29, which violates all norms of international law and attempts to impose his authority extraterritorially—a bizarre attempt to issue orders and threaten the sovereignty of Venezuelan airspace, territorial integrity, aeronautical security, and the complete sovereignty of the Venezuelan state. It is clear that this type of statement constitutes a hostile, unilateral, and arbitrary act, contravening the most basic principles of international law and falling within the framework of a persistent policy of aggression against our country, driven by colonial ambitions in our region of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The statements of the US President represent an explicit threat of the use of force, which is prohibited by Article 2, paragraph 4 of the Charter of the United Nations. They also violate Article 1 of the same Charter, which stipulates that the primary objective is the maintenance of international peace and security.

In the face of this aggression, Venezuela demands the unconditional respect for its airspace, which is protected under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as reaffirmed in the 1944 Chicago Convention, which states in Article 1 that “Every State has exclusive and absolute sovereignty over the airspace that includes its territory.”

For Venezuela, relations with the United States must be built on our historical position of establishing bilateral ties based on mutual respect and adherence to the fundamental principles of international law, including the sovereign equality of states, non-interference in internal affairs, and respect for the right of peoples to freely determine their own destiny. Venezuela rejects any form of neo-colonialism, domination, hegemony, or control.

Venezuela has reaffirmed its Bolivarian orientation toward peace and self-determination and fully embraces—based on the Charter of the United Nations—its right to defend its sovereignty and to defend peace in the Caribbean and throughout South America. Venezuela is part of the emerging new multipolar world and has the right to shape its own destiny.

As President Nicolás Maduro Moros has stated, Venezuela will never submit to any empire, no matter how powerful or what its name. Venezuela has the right and the truth to legitimately defend itself.

Venezuela has warned that it will not accept any dictates, threats, or interference from any foreign power. No external authority has the right to interfere with, obstruct, or restrict the exercise of our national sovereignty over our land, waters, or airspace. Threats against Venezuela are directed against continental peace and all free peoples of the world. We hope that wisdom will prevail and that dialogue and direct negotiations will be prioritized to overcome any differences within a framework of mutual respect and sovereign equality.

With the aim of defusing tensions, Venezuela has appealed to all member states of the international community to uphold the Charter of the United Nations and reject any attempt to justify the use of force or the threat thereof through fabricated pretexts, outdated doctrines, or claims of fictitious legal privileges.

We urge collective action to preserve Latin America and the Caribbean as a “zone of peace” and to prevent any conflict based on lies.

We must emphasize that the Venezuelan people are more united and cohesive than ever, paying close attention to national life in all its dimensions and preparing for the Christmas celebrations. Once again, our people, in complete popular, police, and military unity, will know how to safeguard peace and the supreme interests of our Republic.

I would like to reiterate my gratitude for your unwavering support for Venezuela at this crucial historical moment for international legitimacy and the defense of the right of all peoples of humanity to freely determine their own destiny. This is a battle without borders for peace and harmonious coexistence among nations.

As I have said before, the international anti-fascist movement and global solidarity are key players in the current situation, and their contributions are more important now than ever before. Your commitment and ideas are essential at this critical juncture for progressive forces throughout the world.

Recognizing this crucial role, we are currently working with unwavering resolve in Venezuela to convene the International Assembly of Peoples for Sovereignty and Peace in Latin America. This assembly, a space for reflection and global action, was convened with hope and determination in the face of imperialist threats and aggression, and we are honored by the courageous presence of our Egyptian brothers and sisters.

As the organizers have emphasized, this assembly is not merely an ordinary event, but an act of resistance and creativity, much like this global day of action for Venezuela. We must all contribute collectively to building an alternative model for Latin America and the world—a genuine peace project based on sovereignty, social justice, and solidarity among peoples. The peace of Venezuela and the free peoples of the world is defended by our unity, and our solidarity is our strongest weapon.

Thank you very much!
